J.B. Player
SLEDGEHAMMER GUITAR
Guitar Freaks, Geeks, and Collectors take
note-
Rare-ish guitar alert!
You are bidding on my used J.B. Player "Sledghammer" mid-eighties "modified-strat" style guitar in
basic black with a really fast, aged maple neck. This is a great looking guitar!
It's an early import, when quality was not as good as it is these days, however
this particular model is built pretty well and has held up a long time. It's in
very nice shape for its age. Just minor wear - nothing significant. It's always
been in a smoke-free studio and was played a lot early on, but hasn't seen
much action since.

The SLEDGEHAMMER features a
typical strat-style body, 3-coil pickup w/5-way switch configuration. The trem
is a black-tipped, chrome fulcrum type. It's sturdy enough, but tuning stability
is an issue if you're a dive-bomber. (More, or stiffer, springs may help, since
these are original.) The headstock is a "Dinky"-type that gives this guitar a
more modern edge. For me, the real killer aspect is the all black treatment;
subtle chrome accents in the hardware; and then the deep-toned, bolt-on, maple neck with
black dot inlays sets it off. Nice.
As far as the maker goes - J.B.
Player was a big time importer in the 80's and 90's, especially in acoustics.
I've done a lot of net research on this electric model, and I just can't seem to
locate it. I'm not trying to imply this belongs in the Smithsonian, but I know
how you collectors out there love to own an offbeat axe.
I'm selling it because I just don't use it anymore. It hangs in my studio but I
could use the space, and I'm trying not to become a guitar pack-rat! (not
successfully, but at least I'm trying.)
I bought this new when my hair was big and my tie was skinny. Times change, but
I don't think this guitar has lost any of it's looks. It plays fast, and
delivers a very reasonable strat-type tone with a bit more bite, like a
Tex-Mex model Strat. Of course, if you amp it up and give it some distortion,
the super-fast neck, low action, and beautifully polished frets easily tackles
the shreds.
I know when I'm shopping for guitars on eBay - it's all
about the photos, so I've tried to capture as much detail as
I could. The photos provide an accurate account of the looks
and condition of this guitar.
I do NOT have a case or gig bag for this guitar and the
stand shown in the photo is NOT included. You are bidding
on the guitar ONLY. I will package it very carefully to
guarantee it will arrive in the condition stated and shown.
I will also ship it anywhere in the continental US for a
flat rate of $29.
